In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to remove the date and excerpt from your blog pages in Squarespace to give your posts a cleaner, more evergreen look. Let’s jump right in!

Why Remove the Date and Excerpt?

Sometimes, blog post dates and excerpts can make your content seem outdated, even if the information is still highly relevant. Removing these elements can help keep your blog posts looking fresh and timeless, which is great if you want your content to remain evergreen.

Step-by-Step Guide to Removing the Date and Excerpt

Step 1: Access the Blog Page Editor

  • First, head over to your blog page in the Squarespace editor.

  • Click “Edit” to enter the page editing mode.

Step 2: Go to Section Editing

  • Now, you want to edit the section that displays your blog post titles, dates, and excerpts. Click the section you want to edit, then hit “Edit Section.”

Step 3: Remove the Date

  • Scroll down until you see the "Meta Information" section. This is where Squarespace displays information like the post categories and the date.

  • You’ll see an option for "Primary Meta Content"—this will likely include "Categories" and "Date."

  • To remove the date, simply click on "None" for the primary and secondary meta content. This will hide both the date and any other metadata like categories or tags.

Step 4: Hide the Excerpt

  • Next, head back to the “Text” section. Here, you’ll see an option for "Excerpt." By default, it’s set to "Show."

  • Change this setting to "Hide," and the excerpt will be removed from your blog page.

Step 5: Optional – Remove the "Read More" Button

  • If you also want to remove the "Read More" button that links to the full post, you can hide that as well. Just scroll down and find the setting for the button, then toggle it off.

And that’s it! Now your blog posts will display only the title, without the date, excerpt, or "Read More" button, giving your blog a cleaner, more streamlined look.

Why This is a Good Idea for Evergreen Content

Hiding the date is especially useful if you want your blog content to remain evergreen. Often, people will dismiss older posts even if the information is still relevant. By removing the date, your content stays fresh in the eyes of your readers, no matter when they visit your blog.

Wrapping Up

That’s all there is to it! Removing the date and excerpt from your Squarespace blog page is quick and easy, and it’s a great way to keep your content looking relevant for longer.
