Why Update Your Regional & Language Settings?
Adjusting these settings is important for several reasons, including:
Your currency and date formats affect e-commerce functionality.
Your time zone impacts scheduling, blog timestamps, and appointment bookings.
Your site language controls how certain default elements appear for visitors.
Making sure these details are accurate improves the overall user experience and keeps your site’s backend aligned with your location or audience’s needs.
Step-by-Step Guide to Adjusting Regional & Language Settings
Step 1: Access the Site Settings
Log in to your Squarespace dashboard.
Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the bottom-left corner to open the Settings menu.
Navigate to Website > Site Languages.
Step 2: Change the Site Language
Under Site Languages, you’ll see a dropdown menu with various language options.
Select your preferred language. In my case, I changed it from French to English (United States).
After selecting your language, you’ll notice the date, time, and number format automatically adjust based on regional settings.
💡 Note: This only affects the backend settings and default system text. If you need to translate website content for visitors, you’ll need a multilingual solution like Weglot or Squarespace’s built-in translation tools.
Step 3: Change Your Currency Settings
If you run an online store or accept payments, updating your currency settings is essential.
Go to the Commerce Settings:
You can either click the Commerce link provided in the Site Languages settings OR
Use the search bar (press
/
on your keyboard) and type “currency.”
Click Store Currency and find the currency you need.
For example, I switched mine from Euros (€) to U.S. Dollars ($).
Click Save to apply the changes.
💡 Pro Tip: Your currency settings impact product pricing, checkout pages, and invoices, so make sure it matches the currency you want to use for transactions.
Step 4: Update Regional Settings
Now that the language and currency are set, let’s adjust the region, time zone, and measurement units.
Navigate to Regional Settings:
Go back to Website Settings and click Regional Settings.
Modify the measurement system:
If your site is set to Metric (kilometers, kilograms, etc.) but you prefer Imperial (miles, pounds, inches, etc.), switch it here.
Change the country and time zone:
My demo site was originally set to France (Paris Time Zone, Metric System), but I switched it to:
Country: United States
State: Arkansas
Time Zone: Central Time (Chicago)
Click Save to finalize the changes.
Double-Check Everything
Once you’ve updated all these settings: ✔ Check your site’s language, currency, and region in the backend.
✔ Ensure product pricing reflects the correct currency (if you run an online store).
✔ Confirm time zones for scheduled events, blog posts, and appointment bookings.
If everything looks good, you’re all set!
Wrapping Up
Adjusting your regional and language settings in Squarespace is a simple but important step in managing your website effectively. Whether you’re tweaking your currency for an online store, setting up a new time zone, or just making sure everything is displayed correctly for your audience, these small changes can have a big impact.
