The Best Way to Embed a YouTube Video in Squarespace
Want to embed a YouTube video on your website but aren’t sure which method to use? You’re in the right place! Squarespace offers three different ways to embed videos: the Video Block, the Embed Block, and the Code Block. But not all methods are equal, and using the wrong one could lead to unwanted distractions, like YouTube suggesting other people’s videos on your site.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through all three methods, explaining the pros and cons of each, and I’ll reveal the best way to embed a YouTube video in Squarespace to keep visitors engaged with YOUR content.

3 Ways to Embed a YouTube Video in Squarespace
Method 1: Using the Video Block
Add a new section to your page.
Click Add Block > Video.
Click the pencil icon to edit.
Select Add Video from Link and paste the YouTube URL.
Save and preview your changes.
✅ Pros:
Super quick and easy to use.
Automatically adjusts the video to fit your page.
❌ Cons:
BIG problem: When the video ends, YouTube suggests other people's videos, which can take visitors away from your site.
No way to remove the suggested videos.
⚠ Verdict: The video block is simple, but not ideal if you want to keep users on your site.
Method 2: Using the Embed Block
Add a new Embed Block to your section.
Click Edit and choose Embed Code.
Go to YouTube > Share > Embed and copy the iframe code.
Paste the iframe code into the Embed Block.
Modify the dimensions by changing the width to 980 and height to 560.
IMPORTANT: To prevent YouTube from suggesting other people's videos, find the
?
in the YouTube URL inside the iframe code and replace everything after it with “rel=0”. So for example, you would take the following iframe code:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/L8bSXEKOBTE?si=hjkq4LhAA_dHu4HH" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
and change it to:
<iframe width="980" height="560" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/L8bSXEKOBTE?rel=0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
7. Save your changes and preview.
✅ Pros:
More control over how the video looks.
Prevents suggested videos from other creators.
❌ Cons:
Takes extra steps compared to the video block.
⚠ Verdict: A better option than the video block, but still not the easiest method.
Method 3: Using the Code Block (Best Method!)
Add a Code Block to your page.
Copy the YouTube iframe code (same as the Embed Block method).
Paste the code into the Code Block.
Same as Steps 5 - 7 on the Embed Block Method
✅ Pros:
Keeps visitors on YOUR website (no YouTube suggestions!).
More control over video size and placement.
Fastest method to embed videos correctly.
❌ Cons:
Requires copying and pasting code (but super easy!).
🎯 Winner: The Code Block is the best method! It’s faster than the Embed Block and prevents YouTube from showing other people's videos at the end.
Final Thoughts: Keep Visitors Engaged on YOUR Website
If you're embedding YouTube videos in Squarespace, avoid the Video Block unless you don’t mind losing visitors to YouTube suggestions. The Code Block method is the easiest way to embed videos cleanly while keeping users focused on your content.
