Why Customize Post-Submission Actions?

The post-submission step is a golden opportunity to:

  • Thank your users for reaching out.

  • Provide additional resources, like a downloadable PDF or a link to your services.

  • Guide users to another page to continue their journey on your website.

Squarespace gives you two main options for post-submission actions:

  1. Display a Message: A quick thank-you note that appears immediately after submission.

  2. Redirect to Another Page: Send users to a custom page, such as a thank-you page, a resource download page, or your homepage.

Step-by-Step Guide to Customizing Post-Submission Actions

Step 1: Add a Contact Form to Your Page

  1. In your Squarespace editor, click Edit to start modifying your page.

  2. Add a new section with one of the pre-made layouts and choose the “Contact” option.

  3. Choose a layout that works for your design and add it to your page.

Step 2: Edit the Post-Submission Settings

  1. Click the pencil icon on the contact form block to open the settings.

  2. Navigate to the Post-Submit tab.

Step 3: Customize the Thank-You Message

By default, Squarespace displays a basic thank-you message after form submission. You can customize this message:

  1. Type your message in the text box. For example:

    • “Thank you for reaching out! We’ll get back to you shortly.”

    • “Your submission has been received. Check your inbox for next steps!”

  2. Use the formatting options to style your message. You can:

    • Adjust the alignment (left, center, right).

    • Change the font size (e.g., Heading 2 or 3).

    • Add links, if needed.

Step 4: Set Up a Redirect (Optional)

If you want to send users to another page after form submission:

  1. In the Post-Submit tab, select the Redirect option.

  2. Enter the URL of the page you want to redirect users to. This could be:

    • A custom thank-you page.

    • A download page for a free resource, like a PDF.

    • Your homepage or blog.

  3. Save your changes.

Pro Tip: If you're redirecting to a page on your website, create that page first and use its URL slug to link it in the form settings.

Step 5: Test Your Form

  1. Click Save and exit edit mode.

  2. Enter some test information into your form, such as a name, email address, and message.

  3. Submit the form to ensure the post-submission action works as intended.

When to Use a Thank-You Message vs. a Redirect

  • Use a Thank-You Message: When all you need is a simple acknowledgment that the form was submitted successfully.

  • Use a Redirect: When you want to provide additional value, like access to resources, event registration details, or a confirmation page.

Wrapping Up

Customizing the post-submission actions for your Squarespace contact forms is a small but impactful way to enhance user experience. Whether you choose a personalized thank-you message or redirect users to a special page, you’re ensuring that every interaction with your website is intentional and professional.
