Why Add a Classic Editor Section?
While Fluid Engine has simplified the Squarespace editing experience, there are still reasons why you might prefer the classic editor for certain sections:
Code Compatibility: Some custom code works best in the classic editor.
Ease of Use: If you’re familiar with the older Squarespace interface, the classic editor can feel more intuitive for specific tasks.
Step-by-Step Guide to Adding a Classic Editor Section
Step 1: Enter Edit Mode
Log in to your Squarespace dashboard.
Navigate to the page where you want to add the classic editor section.
Click Edit to open the page editor.
Step 2: Add a New Section
Click Add Section at the bottom of the page or between existing sections.
On the left-hand side, you’ll see a list of section options, such as Blank, Saved, or other pre-designed layouts.
Step 3: Scroll to Classic Editor
Scroll all the way down in the section menu.
Look for the option labeled Add Blank Classic Editor.
Click it to add a new section built with the classic editor.
Step 4: Customize the Classic Editor Section
By default, the classic editor section includes a Text Block.
To add more content, hover over the section and click Add Block.
Options include Image Blocks, Buttons, Forms, and more.
Arrange blocks by dragging and dropping them above, below, or beside existing blocks.
Step 5: Switch Back to Fluid Engine
If you decide you don’t need the classic editor, you can easily return to the Fluid Engine layout:
Remove the classic editor section by clicking the trash icon in the section settings.
Add a new section using the Fluid Engine options for your desired layout.
Tips for Using the Classic Editor
Code-Friendly Sections: Use classic editor sections for embedding custom HTML or CSS snippets.
Keep It Simple: Since the classic editor has limited flexibility compared to Fluid Engine, stick to straightforward layouts.
Test Responsiveness: Ensure your design works well on both desktop and mobile devices.
Wrapping Up
Adding a classic editor section in Squarespace is quick and easy if you know where to look. Whether you’re using it for custom code or just prefer the old way of designing, this feature can be a lifesaver.
