Easy Squarespace URL Trick: Bypass the Password Screen

If you’ve ever been frustrated with having to remember yet another password for a Squarespace website during its development phase, you're not alone. While my last tutorial covered how to set up password protection (catch that blog here), today I've got a cool trick that will simplify your life. Let’s dive into how you can share your Squarespace site without making everyone juggle another password.

The Challenge with Passwords

Setting up a password is great for security when you're building or updating a website, and it's essential for sharing your progress with clients or colleagues discreetly. But let’s be real: passwords can be a hassle. They add an extra step for your users and one more thing for them (and you!) to remember.

The Cool URL Trick to Bypass Passwords

What if I told you that you could share your Squarespace site without needing your clients to enter a password? Yep, you can embed the password directly into the URL. Here’s how to do it smoothly and securely.

Step 1: Set Your Password

  • Just like before, set up your password in the Squarespace settings. I typically go with something straightforward like ‘pass’ for demo purposes.

Step 2: Copy Your Site’s URL

  • Grab the URL you would normally share (omit any unnecessary url slugs).

Step 3: Modify the URL

  • When sharing the URL, append a little magic to the end: ?password=yourpassword. Replace ‘yourpassword’ with whatever you have set. For example, if your password is ‘pass’, the URL modification would look like this: ?password=pass.

Step 4: Share the Custom URL

  • Now, when you share this URL, anyone who clicks it will bypass the password screen and dive straight into the content. No need to remember or enter any passwords!

Why This Trick is Awesome

When you are in the process of building a Squarespace website and would like for someone else to give the site a look, you are only able to share the site with a password unless you have taken out a Squarespace subscription. This allows you to be able to share the site without needing to keep up with a password for yourself or whoever you are sharing the website with.

Wrapping Up

Next time you need to share a password-protected Squarespace site, just use this URL trick to make access as easy as possible. It’s a little touch that can make a big difference in professional settings, especially when you’re handling feedback loops or iterative updates.
